Oil Painting

Does anyone else approach oil painting with a sense of trepidation? I love the process of methodically painting realism with oils but am always somewhat hesitant to do so without expert guidance. The oil painting that I've done so far has been with an experienced tutor. I guess it's like anything, the more you practice the more confidence you develop. But I'd be interested to know if others feel this way. Painting with acrylic seems to be a much looser experience for me.
