Introducing myself
Hi all,
I'm Genèvre and I work in cardboard to make sculpture and installations, a recovering welder 😏, and currently enjoying creating in fabric to make unusual garments. Another line of work is running a few small businesses (to support the creative output ) in a creative props and display company, an arts studio manager in Brunswick, and also as a creative and small business coach.
I am keen to read your current challenges. The landscape has shifted so much since covid and the re-emergence of arts and culture events. To get the conversation started, I am keen to learn what are you seeking to achieve, and what is the main obstacle to making progress?
Welcome! Sounds like you have a very interesting combo with your creative practice and working lives. How has it been for you as an arts studio manager in Brunswick? I am interested to hear how they have been settling back in after being at home for so long over the last couple of years.
One of my main obstacles to making progress on my own practice is that with my current working situation I am doing at least 2 to 2 1/2 hours of commute driving per day. It means that my days are long and I lack energy when I get home. I work in a small gallery in the Yarra Valley. I have heard of some artists struggling to create because they are worried that their artwork won't sell and they are desperate to earn what they have lost over the last few years or that the economic climate is terrible. Have you heard anything similar?
