Helen Heywood born and raised on a farm at Bowmans Forest, is best known for her native flora paintings. Building on still life tradition, Helen’s works are depicted in striking realism while revealing a controlled simplicity of composition and arrangement.
Helen first studied Visual Arts, majoring in Photography at Charles Sturt University in Albury and then later painting and drawing in Gippsland where she spent many years. She has exhibited across Victoria including the Gippsland Art Gallery, Meeniyan Art Gallery, The Hive Gallery and East Gippsland Art Gallery. In 2010 she was a finalist in the John Leslie Prize for Landscape Painting at the Gippsland Art Gallery.
Since returning to North East Victoria two and a half years ago, Helen has begun working from her studio in Eldorado. Her first local exhibition, “Bloom” was held at Wangaratta Art Gallery – WPACC in 2024. She is also a regular entrant in the King Vallery Art Show and the Rutherglen Tastes of Art Prize.
Currently, Helen is working on a series of paintings inspired by her travels, for an upcoming exhibition to be held in 2026 at the Heathcote Winery, VIC.
