Artist Statement
This evocative exhibition is inspired by earth’s poetic nature. Like written poetry, the earth can evoke deep emotional responses and, through the powerful life metaphors it offers, enables us to explore and navigate the complexities of our human experiences. The idea of a ‘Poetic Earth’ can be interpreted to mean finding and expressing the inherent beauty, rhythm, and artistry in the natural world, seeing nature itself as a living poem with its own sounds, patterns, and life-giving qualities, often inspiring deeper emotional and spiritual connections to the planet.
The abstract works in this exhibition interpret the famous natural features of Cable Beach in Broome, WA. The exhibition showcases iconic formations from wind-sculpted sandstone and Tafoni to the intricate artistry of Bubbler Crab sand pellets and ephemeral tessellated pavements. Together with the accompanying photographs, these works invite viewers to notice the subtle ‘hidden’ details of these features often missed at first glance when visiting the Beach and reflect on the timeless beauty of the natural world that has been crafted over thousands of years.
Medium: Collage on paper (acrylic, mono gel print made collage papers)
