Soma Art
I’m a proudly Ukrainian-born, emerging Melbourne artist. Years of study, practice and numerous commissions for my loved ones have given me the confidence to get to this stage - exhibiting through MAVA!
Bodyscapes are my passion - representing fleeting moments of unique shapes and shadows, forever lost unless captured at a single point in time. Deeply personal and intimate, each body's curves and outlines offer unique blends of light and shade, captured in monochromatic oils, predominantly on linen canvas.

I discovered drawing and painting in 2018 after retiring and I was surprised that I was able to produce reasonable basic work! I have a creative side in that I have written stories and poetry from a young age, and had a babywear sewing business (from home) for 15 years while working as an Executive Assistant. My father was an art teacher but I had never had an interest in learning art. To discover how much I could fall in love with painting, and in particular watercolour was a revelation to me!

I was born in Buenos Aires Argentina in 1960 and my passion for art and oil painting began when I was in primary school, where I would stay at the library reading about art after class, but it was not until the age of 12 that I began experimenting with form and colour.

Joe South
Growing up in Adelaide with no formal art training, Joe moved to Melbourne to live in 2015.
He began dabbling with photography, digital art and casual pencil drawings before the COVID-19 pandemic struck in 2020 leaving him jobless and with a multitude of spare time.
After purchasing a small canvas and some acrylic paints, he instantly fell in love with the medium and the comfort and solitude that came along with it.
