On Heat

This piece explores unnatural lighting, which produces quite deformed and harsh shapes and shadows on an otherwise beautifully composed bodyscape. Preferring to paint monochromatic nudes, this piece challenged my prior experience with shadow on a body's contours and made me paint entirely what I saw rather than understood. I love that the colours trick the viewer into thinking it is a thermal image, making it truly surreal.
