Mia is mainly self-taught, works with oil paints but also charcoal sketches and dabbles in sculpting out of mixed materials, resin and miniature busts in Polymer Clay. She has a contemporary classical style, although steps into the abstract at times. Her love of people and their different characters drive her to seek out faces to paint and draw. Mia tries to bring out what is unique in each subject all the while staying true to their likeness, this also goes for her abstract pieces.
She is also influenced by her love of nature and the play of ‘light’ in all its forms on a subject. Although based in Melbourne, Australia, Mia grew up in Stockholm, Sweden and spent most of her time near or on the water. Her ties with nature, light and water has a tendency to inform her work whether she is doing portraits, still lives or landscapes.
Mia has done some short course work with the esteemed local artists and teachers Geoff Dupree and Ignacio Rojas at Melbourne Studio of Art in Elsternwick, as well as attended a weekend art retreat with visiting Korean-American artist-master Zin Lim, and is currently furthering her artistic qualifications by finalising a Fine Arts Degree in her spare time.
Mia is a member of the NRAAA (National Registry of Australian Art and Artists), and has exhibited at The Camberwell Art Show 2018, RAW Artists Melbourne Oct 2018, and The Mornington Art Show 2019, ArtAviso ‘VitroForm’ Exhibition at Lord Coconut, Melbourne Fringe Festival 2019, as well as MAVA ‘MANIFEST’ Exhibition at 345AC Gallery 2019, amongst others. She also works on a commission basis and has recently worked on several themed paintings for offices both in Melbourne and Sydney.
