Julee Latimer

I was born in the UK. I settled in Australia in 2005 after spending the previous 17 years moving internationally many times. My life has been a patchwork of cultures and this plays out in my desire to deconstruct my work.

I work with dried paint finding it far more interesting in this state than when wet. I create works specifically to cut them up. I exploit the flexibility inherent in the dried material though layering, fragmenting and weaving. The relationship between paint and canvas is the driving force in my art practice. I aim to surprise the viewer and generate conversation about the nature of painting.

I have been a full-time artist for many years gaining international recognition for my work in mosaic art and my authorship of the book Sculptural Secrets for Mosaic (Schiffer Publishing, USA). I have been selected as a Finalist for three Art Prizes in the last 12 months. My artworks are held in private collections in Australia, the UK, the USA, Sweden, Austria and Canada. I hold a BFA (Sculpture and Painting) from Curtin University, Perth.
