Emerging Artist Alicia Cornwell has been painting full time in her studio for the last two and a half years. A passion she has returned to after pursuing various careers and raising a family at her home in Olinda on top of Mount Dandenong, Victoria.
Achieving a Bachelor of Fine Art majoring in Printmaking / Painting at Monash University (Caulfield) and a Diploma of Education (1980’s), Alicia went on to teach and run her own business as a Vintage Merchant for nearly 20 years.
Alicia’s home is surrounded by a 100-year-old garden whilst out the back door sits the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Gardens. The region is a flower growing area so Still Life and botanicals were calling as painting subjects. National Parks and cool climate rainforest creates an abundance of ideas and inspiration she only has to step outside her studio to discover.
Within this is her large collection of Vintage finds from her Antique dealer days, their unique characteristics are a delightful inspiration to transfer to the canvas! Her current interest lies in very old fabrics and their fascinating designs.
Alicia is drawn to unique, colourful and quirky layouts and designs. Working in oil paints both from the tube and stick form is her medium of choice and she delights in painting both large and small canvases.
Since being back at the easel, Alicia has been successfully exhibiting in exhibitions around Australia both solo and group and currently showing works with several galleries.
She is currently represented by Art to Art Gallery. Artworks are also showing at Uralla Gallery, Arvys Gallery Olinda, Feliz home, Rose St Trading Co.
She was a shortlisted finalist in Art to Art Galleries Unearthed Art Prize 2020
She is also currently a finalist in the Art Lovers Australia Art Prize 2021
